A new Rotary International exchagne student has come to Fuerstenwalde. Her name is Giulia Henrique Sa Barreto, age 17, and she comes from Rolandia, Brazil. Giulia started school at the end of February. Until she gets a feel for things we will have the same schedule. She does not speak any German so school will be challenging for her. fortunately she speaks nearly perfect English (in addition to Portuguese) so we have been able to communicate.
On Monday she joined me and a German friend Josie to cook Southwestern food. I made Fajitas and rice water and she made a typical Brazilian chocolate fudge like dessert. (Finding condensed milk for the desert was a challenge, but we eventually found some in a Turkish market.)
The second Rotary inbound meeting was last week and a ton of fun. Guilia and I traveled by train to a small island in the Baltic where we met up with 100 other Exchange students from the Berlin/Hamburg region. It was great to see students from around the globe and to welcome Guilia into the mix.
I hope to post pictures soon!
