Spring and Easter are about new beginnings. I celebrated with my new host family - the Kruegers. The family consists of mother - Annette (my English teacher), father - Nils, and sons Jakob and Johann. We had multiple Easter Egg hunts which were especially fun because Johann is still quite excited by the holidays. We gathered quail eggs as well as chocolate treats. And my host mom gave me a copy of her favorite book I am looking forward to reading. The grandparents from both sides of the family gave me Easter baskets as well. It was a lovely celebration.
There is another tradition here. Around easter, women rise early and walk to springs at sunrise without speaking to wash themselves. This brings beauty for the year ahead. Unfortunately, I stayed out dancing until 2 am so I did not rise for this beauty tradition.
Also, the men in the family braved jumping in the newly unfrozen lake for a quick dip Easter day much to our amusement.
The weather is finally warming up here and people are surprised by how quickly I returned to wearing sandals.
